`From time to time, you may need to add/configure or change/edit a setting in the SPARCS Settings.txt file. Follow the steps below to change the setting.
Before you begin:
Before you change the settings file, you should do the following:
Check the current status of the setting. See Check settings for the XPS client (on page 1) for instructions.
Verify the default state for the setting. For instructions, see Verify setting definitions (on page 1).
To add or change a setting in the SPARCS Settings.txt file:
In the XPS client, do the following:
From the File menu, select Diagnostics, and then select List "SPARCS Settings" Available.
In the "SPARCS Settings" Available window, scroll down the list of settings to find the one that you want.
In the description column, copy or type the description for the setting that you want to a text file. You will use this later, when you modify the settings file.
Shut down XPS and N4. See Shut down or restart the N4 system (on page 1) for the proper shutdown sequence.
Using either a text editor or a spreadsheet program, do the following:
Open the SPARCS Settings.txt file that is located in the Test Data folder on the local machine where you will be running the XPS client in the solo mode. (If you do not yet have a Test Data folder, see Create a test data folder (on page 1).)
Under the #SETTINGS data flag, in the alphabetical list of settings, look for the setting that you want to add or change.
Not all settings appear in the list in the SPARCS Settings.txt file. If the setting that you are concerned with is not in the settings file, the XPS client operates with that setting in the default state. However, do not assume that if a setting is in the file, it is not in the default state.
If the setting does not appear in the file, and you do not want it in the default state, add it to the file by doing the following:
-- In the code column, enter the six-digit code for the setting.
-- In the may change column, enter Y.
-- Based on the information from verifying the default value for the setting, in the value column, enter the desired value.
-- Enter the setting definition you copied from the "SPARCS Settings" Available window. (See step 1 above.)
If the setting appears in the settings file, but it does not have the value that you want, change the value column to the required state.
Save and close the modified SPARCS Settings.txt file.
Open the XPS client in Solo mode (see Set up a solo workstation (on page 1) for instructions) and do the following:
Navigate to File Diagnostics
List "SPARCS Settings" Available. Scroll down the list of settings to find the one you added or changed.
Verify that the change is saved as you intended.
Close the XPS client.
Copy the modified file to the host:
On the XPS host, navigate to the data folder (C:\ProgramData\Navis\xps\data)
In the data folder, find the SPARCS Settings.txt file and rename it, for example, to OLD SPARCS Settings.txt. This preserves the older version of the settings file, in the case there is need for a roll back.
From your local drive, copy the modified settings file.
Paste the modified settings file (named SPARCS Settings.txt) into the data folder that is located with the XPS host.
Restart the XPS host (on page 1) and all XPS clients (on page 1). This is important to make sure XPS and all the clients are synchronized.
Open the XPS client again, but this time in the Client mode.
Again, from the File menu, select Diagnostics, and then select List "SPARCS Settings" Available. Scroll down the list of settings to find the one that you added or changed. Verify that the change is saved as you intended.
